May Day, International Worker's Day and Mayworks Kamloops Launch Event
This FREE (or by donation) event is Kamloops' first ever Mayworks Festival of Working People & the Arts. Mayworks celebrates diverse artists and working people at the intersection of art, social justice, and labour. The May Day opening event on International Workers Day, includes sponsorship and support from local labour unions and representation from Kamloops arts organizations and artists to bring awareness to the precarity workers in the arts.
The Mayworks Kamloops Launch itinerary looks like this: 5-7pm, inviting labour unions, artists, social justice practitioners to provide information 5:15 - 5:45 speeches from arts/labour - speakers to be announced within the next week.5:45-7:00 Networking and art exhibitions and sales.
Mayworks Vancouver takes place unceded territories. The City of Vancouver acknowledges that it is situated on the unceded traditional territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations.
Mayworks Kamloops takes place on Tk'emlúps te Secwépemc territory, situated within the unceded ancestral lands of the Secwépemc Nation.
